Built for the moment before.

The test. The meeting. The speech. STATE is the 90 seconds between "I can't" and walking in clear.

Why I built STATE

Vincent, founder of STATE

I live with severe anxiety.

For me, the hardest part was never the test, the meeting or the speech itself. It was the minute and a half before. My mind would race, my body would lock up, and everything I’d prepared would disappear.

Everything I tried asked for time I didn’t have in that moment: twenty-minute meditations, long courses, apps full of choices. I didn’t need a library. I needed something I could do right then, in the hallway, that actually changed how I felt.

So I built STATE. One tap. Ninety seconds of guided breathing, with a voice that breathes with you. And a before-and-after score every time, because when you’re anxious it’s hard to believe anything is working. Seeing the number change is the proof.

STATE doesn’t fix my anxiety. It gets me through the next ninety seconds. Some days, that’s everything.

If it helps you too, I’d love to hear about it: hello@statecontrol.co

How it works

1. Tap how you want to feel

Energize, Focus, Calm, Confidence or Reset. No library to scroll, no decisions.

2. Breathe for 90 seconds

Follow the ring. It opens as you breathe in and closes as you breathe out, with a calm voice and music guiding every breath (and a gentle vibration on Android), so you can close your eyes.

3. See what changed

Rate how you feel before and after. You see the shift right away, and STATE learns which resets work best for you.

Built on well-studied techniques

No mystery methods. Every session uses a breathing or relaxation technique with research behind it.

  • Cyclic sighingIn a 2023 Stanford study, five minutes a day improved mood more than mindfulness meditation.
  • Long exhalesBreathing out longer than you breathe in is linked to a slower heart rate.
  • Box and paced breathingUsed to stay composed under pressure; about six breaths a minute is associated with a calm, attentive state.
  • Naming the feelingPutting a feeling into one word reduces the brain's alarm response.
  • Reframing nervesCalling pre-performance nerves "excitement" works better than trying to calm down.

STATE is a wellness tool, not a treatment for anxiety or any medical condition. If anxiety is affecting your life, please talk to a doctor or therapist. STATE can sit alongside that support.
